Choosing LCD or Plasma Television?

There is a lot of different views and opinions when comes to debating which is the better flat screen television, the plasma or the LCD. There are people who feel that the plasma is better and there are others who supported the LCD flat screen television.

Before you can vote for either one of them, do you really know what are the differences and features that separate the two different types of flat screen television and why there are totally two different views of which is the better of the others?

The LCD televisions work by using two sheets of polarized transparent material that are adhered together. The polarized transparent material has a polymer coating that holds liquid crystals and when electric current passes through them, an image will be created on the television screen; with fluorescent tubes illuminate the image behind the transparent sheets. No radiation is emitted when using an LCD television.

The technology of a plasma television is through the usage of millions of tiny glass bubbles that are covered beneath its flat, lightweight surface. These bubbles contain a gas-like substance that has a phosphor coating, known as the plasma. Each bubble has three sub-bubbles in the form of red, green and blue. When an electric current flows through the flat surface, it will causes the plasma inside some bubbles to give off ultraviolet rays and that in turn causes the phosphor coatings to glow the appropriate color and thus create an image.

Beside the technology differences, plasma televisions usually have a wider range of sizes compared to LCD television which traditionally comes in much smaller size, though they are catching up now. The bigger size television is cheaper for plasma whereas LCD television will be more expensive.

The contrasts and viewing angles of plasma television are better when compare to LCD television. When you sit far away from the television screen, the picture remains solid for the plasma whereas for LCD, you might see some brightness and color ship. Plasma televisions are also known to fare better in tracking motion and fast-moving objects.

For the same size range, LCD televisions offer a higher resolution than the plasma television and their image stability is excellent, that means, you won’t tired your eyes even if you sit very closed to the screen. LCD televisions operate at cooler temperatures and they are said to have a much longer lifespan as well. They are lighter, thinner and that make it easier to ship.

It was commonly known that plasma screens are prone to burn-in when compare to LCD screen but, there are research that proved it only happens to early generation plasmas and the modern models have rendered this issue. Burn-in occurs when an image is projected for too long and then become permanently imprinted on the television screen.

So, seeing the differences, can you decide which is the better of the two?
